Strategic Vision versus Status Quo

One of the important and often unexpected discoveries in a strategic planning process is that we are not the organization we will need to become in order to achieve our new vision and implement our strategic plan. Here is an article from the Boston Consulting Group that explores the mismatch between vision and organizational culture. Author Eric E. Olsen begins “Vision creates intent. Culture determines action. Often the two are out of sync. When they are, culture can actually undermine vision and prevent a company from achieving essential business goals.” Olsen offers five principles, most of which are easily transferable to the nonprofit world.
